    Hearing Colors, Seeing Sounds. Can I Get A Light?

    I want a place to feel safe. A place to feel like being who you are is the right thing to do. When you’re a little kid, all you want to do is play pretend, right? You hide from dragons, witches, and monsters. Build fortresses, castles, safe zones. Most of the time, closing your eyes was the best way to escape and hide from the evil creatures you were so convinced were chasing you.  No matter what, even if you couldn’t physically see them there, especially late at night you would know they were in your closet, under the bed, behind the door. You would let your mind think so far into the deep abyss you start to picture the things that scared you. Pull the covers tighter, squeeze your closed eyes tighter, scrunch your entire body, tighter. You would keep yourself as quiet, and small as you could. All because you knew they were there.  Doesn’t this remind you of what you do at night, still now? Especially late at night, you start letting your imagination run. The things that scare you start to come alive don’t they? They start to be as alive as the monsters you used to dream about when you were little. You pull the covers tighter, squeeze your closed eyes tighter, scrunch your entire body, tighter. You would keep yourself as quiet, and small as you could. All because you know now, the monsters were always real. They were always real, because the monster is you.  I’ll be here anyway,  Abby
